The theme can be uploaded in two ways:
Once the theme is uploaded, you need to activate it. Go to Appearance > Themes and activate the theme.
For sites with a large number of posts and pages, it is crucial that you set the correct permalink structure as otherwise you could experience significant performance problems.
For large sites (100+ posts/pages), we would advise you not to use a custom structure such as /%postname%/ as this can have a dramatic effect on page loading times which can result in your site crashing altogether when you have a lot of traffic. Instead you should consider adding the post ID, (e.g. /%post_id%/%postname%/) as this gets around the problem.
For more information on this please have a look at the “And we’re back. Sort of.” article by Steve Douglas.
Our theme comes with two custom menu locations. “Secondary Menu” is located at the very top of the theme and “Primary Menu” is used for… the site’s main navigation.
Go to Appearance > Menus. Give your menu a name and build it up using little widgets on the right. You can add pages, categories or custom URLs.
Now simply select the theme location for your newly created menus using a widget on the left. Under Primary Menu, select your menu from the dropdown list, to use it as the site’s main navigation. Secondary Menu can be used to populate the uppermost navigation.

The theme comes with a simple to use administration panel. You can access it by navigating to Appearance > Theme Options. The theme options are conveniently spread over a number of tabs. Each tab contains the options that pertain to a particular area of the theme.

The theme comes with multiple widgetized areas and multiple custom built widget that can be used many times. They can be found under Appearance > Widgets.

The ZillaPress theme supports the use of two shortcodes for styling purposes.
The shortcodes enable the use of a left-aligned pullquote and a right-aligned pullquote.
[quote_left] Cras mattis consectetur purus sit amet fermentum. [/quote_left]
[quote_right] Praesent commodo cursus magna, vel scelerisque nisl consectetur et. [/quote_right]
The theme comes with four inbuilt custom page templates; Archives, Contact and Full Width. These templates can be used on individual pages to alter the display or functionality.
The theme comes packed with a simple archives template. To use the template, simply create a page using the “Archives” page template. The archive lists will automatically display below any page content. Lists include the last 30 posts, archives by month and archives by subject.
The Full Width template allows the creation of a page without a sidebar. The main content will span the full width of the site. To use the template, simply create a page using the “Full Width” page template.
The theme comes packed with a simple contact form. To use the inbuilt form, simply create a page and use the page template “Contact”. The form will automatically insert below any page content. The form includes jQuery validation to enhance user experience and the recipient email can be configured from the theme options.
The ZillaPress theme comes with inbuilt functions to replace both the default Gravatar and login logo. To replace the default Gravatar, replace gravatar.png with your chosen image in the theme /images/ folder. Upload the new image to your server via FTP and select the new Gravatar from the “Discussion” options which can be found under Settings > Discussion.
![]()
To replace the default login logo, replace custom-login-logo.png with your chosen image in the theme /images/ folder. Upload the new image to your server via FTP and the new logo will become visible on the WordPress login screen.

Our theme supports the use of featured images. The theme supports auto-resizing of the featured images and so there is only the requirement to specify a single image. Auto-resizing will only occur however when the image is uploaded for the first time, images that have previously been uploaded will not be resized.
To ensure the correct display of images across your site, ensure you specify an image with dimensions of 940×530 or larger.
To upload a featured image, go to Posts > Add New or open an existing post in editing mode. Locate the Featured Image module and click the Set featured image link.
Clicking the link will open up the usual WordPress image uploader where you will upload the image as usual. Simply make sure that it is either the same size or larger than what the final thumbnail will be. Once you’re done uploading the image, simply click the link that says “Use as featured image”.
Once you’re done, a preview of the image should appear in the right-hand box and you are free to insert the image into the post as with any other image.

The ZillaPress theme includes a total of 4 CSS files that are used at various times depending on user-controlled options that determine the site’s display. All CSS files, with the exception of the main CSS file (styles.css) can be found in the theme’s /css/folder.
When modifying the theme’s CSS it is advised to use “custom.css” as this will make updating to a newer version of the theme much simpler without overwriting your changes. You may need to use the !important declaration to overwrite any other styles in the theme for the same elements.
/* --
Example: Change the background colour to black (!important is used to overwrite any duplicate classes in styles.css)
body { background: #000!important; }
-- */
The main stylesheet is organised by section and includes a styles index for quick navigation. To locate the styles for a particular section, view the index and locate them by number.
/* -- Styles Index ======= 1.0 Document Body 2.0 Site Structure 3.0 Common Classes 4.0 Basic Alignments 5.0 Default Links 6.0 Vertical Rhythm 7.0 Default Headings 8.0 Top Bar 9.0 Secondary Navigation 10.0 header ...
